LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS

 General Library Rules

There are common library rules and regulations that guide users in their day to day patronage of the university library. Users are expected to adhere strictly to them in that any user who flagrantly violates the expected regulations of the university library is expectedly sanctioned according to the laid down rules.

Admission into the University Library

  • Only registered Students, Staff, and authorized visitors are allowed access. A valid university identity card must be presented upon entry.
  • Library or Reader’s cards are not transferable.
  • Valid documents must be presented for borrowing any library materials.
  • Lost cards must be reported immediately failure to report may lead to payment of Five Hundred Naira (N500) fine. The fine is subject to review from time to time.

Dress Code

  • Anybody who dresses offensively that is likely to cause security threat shall not be allowed into the library.
  • Only decent and approved dress code is required. Slippers, night wear, or revealing clothes are prohibited in the library.

 

Personal Belongings 

Cloak boxes are provided at the main entrance of the library- Tallies are to be obtained for all personal belongings.

  • Bags and personal items must be kept in a designated area- Cloak Section.
  • Overcoats, raincoats and other kinds of outdoor clothing, umbrella, bags, cases, cameras, photocopy devices and similar personal belongings shall normally be deposited in the Cloak room at the entrance of the library with proper registration.
  • Hand bags, files, folders, coats, etc. if permitted in the library for a category of people shall be subjected to examination by the porters on exit.

  • All personal belongings including vehicle or any means of transportation parked within the library premises is at owners’ risk.

Mutilation or theft of Materials

  • Mutilation of library material is considered a serious offense. This may lead to suspension or expulsion.
  • Bottles of ink, correction fluid and other potentially damaging substances shall not be taken into the library.
  • Food and drink shall not be taken into the library, but may be admitted for consumption in the tea room or courtyard where a library has any of these.
  • Smoking and drinking of alcohol are not permitted in the library.
  • Silence shall be maintained as far as possible in the library.
  • All consulted books must be left on the reading tables.
  • No reader may enter any part of the library marked “private” or “reserved” unless by permission.
  • Shelving and shelf reading is to be done by the library assistants or any other trained staff.
  • No person may go barefoot in the library. No person is allowed to bring in dangerous weapons into the library.
  • Naked light is not allowed.
  • Library staff are empowered to stop any activity in the library which they consider prejudicial to the safety and well – being of readers and library staff.


BORROWING RULES 

Loan Eligibility

Number of books and loan duration varies by user category (undergraduate, post graduate and staff)

Loan Period

  • Books may be borrowed for one week renewable if not requested for by another user.

Overdue Books

  • Five Hundred Naira (N00) fine is imposed for late returns of borrowed books. The fine is subject to review from time to time.
  • Users are liable for damaged or lost books
  • Full replacement or payment of lost book would be charged.

Reserved/Reference Materials 

  • Some items e.g. Reference books, Journals and Recreational Materials are only for in-house consultation.


Use of Computers and Internet for Academic and Research Purposes only

  • Use of the E-library is governed by the rules made by the Librarian in charge of ICT as directed by the Head of the library.
  • No access shall be provided for offensive or non- academic contents.
  • Portable computers may be allowed in the library if duly registered by the Porter.
  • The use of such portable computers is permitted only when they are in quiet mode.
  • Users of such equipment may be required to work in specified areas or stop the use of the computer if it constitutes distraction to other readers.

  • Mobile phones must be switched off or set to ‘silent’ mode in the library.

 

WI-FI Access  

  • Restricted to academic use ONLY; Login details may be provided by Library Staff.

 

  • Respect for Staff and Users

Users must treat staff and fellow users with courtesy. Staff security is paramount, so also for users too.

Opening Hours 

Mondays: 8.00am-6.00pm

Weekends/Public Holidays — the Library is closed.
