
Dr. Modupeola Aduke ABOYADE

Dr. (Mrs.) Modupe Aduke Aboyade a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Library Association (FNLA). She is an academic researcher with contributions to various topics in librarianship. She has extensive experience in library administration and history of holding various leadership positions in her career life. Dr. Modupe Aboyade is most admired for her strengths in being a visionary leader, strategic planner and a forward-thinking professional who is excellent in being people centered. Dr. Modupe was born in Oro-Ago, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. She bagged her Diploma in Library and Information Science (1983) as well as her Bachelor of Library and Information Science (1990) from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She had her Master of Library, Archival and Information Studies (1994), Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (1998) and Doctor of Philosophy (2016) from the University of Ibadan respectively.
Dr. (Mrs.) Aboyade a seasoned librarian, known for her unwavering commitment to literacy and integrity, community engagement, commitment to excellence in leadership and a transformative power of information access has over 35 years of dedicated service in the Library, Archival and Information world. She has dedicated and established herself as a passionate advocate of inclusive library services. In her career journey, Modupe Aduke has led numerous initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide, implementing early literacy programmes for underserved communities and preserving culture, custom and community legacies through carefully curated archival projects. Her leadership roles included pioneering Head of Libraries, being first female Librarian in many positions and countless lead roles in library administration and high level democracy in staff and users’ welfare.
Among her peers, Modupe is particularly admired for her deep knowledge of library Science, her humility, calmness at work, ability to connect colleagues, and weathering the digital resources landscape. She approaches her task with professionalism, compassion, and an enduring belief in the library as the cornerstone of learning complementing learning to achieve learning outcomes. Dr. Modupe Aduke remains an active member of the Nigerian Library Association. Frequently present at conferences and making great meaningful impacts. She is currently, the Assistant Chief Editor of the journal, Nigerian Libraries, the official journal of the Nigerian Library Association.
Modupe Aduke has more than fifty (50) publications, consisting of chapters in books, and journal articles. To her credit, she has authored 5 textbooks popular in the Library and Information Science Schools and Libraries. Most of the articles published have impact factors and are published in highly rated publishing outlets in Nigeria and abroad. Equally, most of these articles are cited in goggle scholar. She has participated in several conferences and workshops within and outside the shores of Nigeria. As a seasoned scholar, she has travelled to many parts of Nigeria and countries like Ghana, London, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Jerusalem, Ethiopia, Singapore, Canada and so many other places to present papers at conferences, workshops and seminars as evident by her numerous articles in peer reviewed journals, conference proceedings and chapters in books. She has served as External Examiner and Assessor of several tertiary institutions including the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, College of Agriculture, Igboora, The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, and the Federal Polytechnic, Offa. Also, Dr. Modupe Aboyade has been engaged as an interviewer for higher institutions in Nigeria during selection processes.
Some of the previous work places and positions are: being a School Librarian at the Government Day Secondary School, Jaji, Kaduna State (1983-1987), a Librarian at the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan (1991-1992), Oyo State, a Theological Librarian at the Immanuel College of Theology, Samonda Ibadan (1994-2001), a Medical Librarian at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo (2001-2011), the Head of Department, Library and Information Science, Federal Polytechnic, Ede (2011-2019), the University Librarian, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso (2019-2024) and currently, the University Librarian, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.
At the professional level, she has been Treasurer, Nigerian Library Association, 2011-2017; Chairperson, Nigerian Library Association 2017-2020 during the period, NLA Osun State was brought to national reputation; Member, Academic Board of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, 2013-2019; Head of Department of Library and Information Science, Federal Polytechnic Ede, 2013-2019; Member, Committee on the Operational Modalities of Staff School, Federal Polytechnic, Ede; Member, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Institutional Journal; Member, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Convocation Committee; Member, Academic Board of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede; Chairperson, Academic Board Welfare Committee and Chairperson, Research and Publication Committee, School of Business Studies, Federal Polytechnic, Ede. She rose through the ranks from a Library Attendant to the Zenith of her career both at the Administrative and institutional levels to become a Chief Lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede and University Librarian. Dr. Modupe Aboyade was appointed on May 1, 2019 as the first Female University Librarian, in the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso where she served conscientiously, dedicatedly and meritorious for 5 and half years. She became the first female member of LAUTECH Management Committee after thirty-three years of LAUTECH’S existence. Also, she was the first University Librarian in LAUTECH to be inducted as a Fellow of the Nigerian Library Association (the most prestigious award for qualified Librarians in Nigeria.)
As a result of her expertise, Dr. (Mrs.) Aboyade built many libraries from the scratch. These include: the Ibadan South Anglican Diocese, Kudeti, Theological Library-Under the Late Bishop Ajetunmobi 1999-2003; the Immanuel College of Theology Ultra-modern Library Complex, Samonda, Ibadan and the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Teaching Hospital Library, Osogbo. In addition, she was the Pioneer Medical Librarian, the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Teaching Hospital Library, Osogbo (2001-2011) and the Head of Department, Library and Information Science Department at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede (2013-2019).
Dr. (Mrs.) Aboyade is a member of several professional bodies. These include: Nigerian Library Association, Osun State Chapter of NLA; She served as the Osun NLA Chairperson from 2017-2020. First Chairperson Association of Women Librarians in Nigeria (AWLIN) Osun State Chapter; Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN); Cataloguing, Classification and Indexing Association of Nigeria (CCIAN); National Association of Library and Information Science Educator (NALISE); Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP); Association of University Librarians in Nigerian Universities (AULNU); Nigerian School Library Association (NSLA); National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS), Members: Research and Academic Libraries, and a Fellow of the Institute of Policy Management Development (FIPMD). Owing to her dedication to service, uprightness, good conduct and selfless services to humanity, the Nigerian Library Association National body inducted Dr. M. A. Aboyade as a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Library Association in the year 2023.
Notable also is her contributions to humanity through scholarship which earned her a Grant from the Federal Government of Nigeria to carry out research in the field of Library and Information Science in the year 2014. An assignment she completed within the record time. Dr. (Mrs.) Aboyade’s prowess has earned so many awards, plaques and letters of commendation from: the Nigerian Library Association, Osun State Chapter on good conduct at the AGM organized in June 2012; the Nigerian Library Association, Osun State Chapter Commendation on good conduct as the best State Treasurer of the Association issued in December 2012; Certificate of Honour as Nigerian Library Association, Osun State Chapter, Financial Secretary (2007-2011) and Treasurer (2011-2017); Certificate of Merit from the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Staff Co-operative Investment and Credit Society Ltd. Committee member (2004 to 2005; the Virtuous Woman, an award given by the Women’s Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria and for meritorious service given by the Students of Library and Information Science. She was celebrated with an award of excellence in Educational Service Award at the 2025 International Women’s Day Conference in Abuja and Award of meritorious service by the Ekiti State University, Health Centre in April, 2025. She was equally given another award of meritorious service as a woman of substance in the library and information professional by the International Women’s Day Organizers in Abuja on the 11th April, 2025. She again won another award of Excellence acknowledging her exceptional service and leadership by the Organization for Women in Science for Developing World (OSWD) EKSU BRANCH on the 28TH AUGUST, 2025.
Dr. (Mrs.) Aboyade is an astute mentor, always ready to build meaningful partnerships with stakeholders and a leader who cares deeply for the welfare of her fellow man. In the Federal Polytechnic, Ede is known as ‘Mama Welfare’. Her relationship with staff transcends boss-subordinate relationship. Her exit from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology was highly celebrated by the Governing Council, Management, staff and Students of the university due to tremendous progress recorded during her over tenure as the first female librarian in LAUTECH, Ogbomoso. A department of Library and Information Science evolved in Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso through her noble effort. Her tenure produced three (3) female University Librarians from the same institution, the same university library at the same time and month. This is a rear occurrence and a special grace. Also, her efforts have yielded tremendously in the production of Professors and Associate Professors in LAUTECH.
On the 29th of January, 2026, Dr. Aboyade delivered the 19th Inaugural lecture titled: Striking Equilibrium in Learning: The Third Leg of the Tripod at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede where is a currently a Chief Lecturer. The theme resonates around the essential support Librarian lends to knowledge acquisition, practice and reflections in internalizing and harmonizing learning. Equally, a Festschrift of 35 Chapters put together by seasoned academics was launched in her honour on the 29th January, 2026. The book of honour and tribute was published in respect of Dr. Modupe Aboyade’s recognition for her service to scholarship and institutional development. Countless dignitaries around the world celebrated her academic tribute in book form.
Dr. M. A. Aboyade who is a forward-thinking leader with strong interpersonal and organizational skills is academically sound, morally upright, highly calculated, just and emotional stable is currently being employed into the services of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti as the 5th substantive and first female University Librarian in Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti. She is happily married to Dr. Wahab A. Aboyade, a Veteran Librarian and the union is blessed with delightful children.
